YOKO OGAWA - New Vintage Paperbacks
Beautiful, twisted and brilliant - discover Yoko Ogawa.
Featuring photography from Sophie Broadbridge, the aim of the series design was to focus on the minutiae within the lives of Ogawa’s characters, and amplify that detail to almost grotesque levels, so that the sweet becomes sickly and the perfume becomes cloying.
FLAMETHROWERS - Rachel Kushner
The cover design needed to appeal to a paperback audience, to give a suggestion of the novel without being too narrative and allow plenty of room for the amazing quotes. The design uses the photography of Ernst Haas (represented by Getty Images). Haas was an innovative master of colour photography and form. He set out as a photojournalist to take pictures of the real world but infused each image with reflections, motion and other abstract elements. He created strikingly coloured graphic images.
The photographs of the torn posters of New York are from 1970. They have an urban energy and are suggestive of protest. The torn panels of the poster allowed us to show fragments of the woman from the back cover of the UK hardback edition, New York and the motorcyclist (back cover).
Paperback publication date : 02/01/2014
KURT VONNEGUT REISSUES
The playful interaction between type and image of the previous covers in this series presented a challenge when designing these latest reissues, but allowed an opportunity to have a lot of fun with props and paper-cutting.

KAMA SUTRA DOT-TO-DOT
Today we reveal all, showing off our Tantric Tortoise in all its glory!
Here’s how we like to do it - it’s not hard, it’s just a matter of grabbing your pencil and getting stuck in! But remember, it’s not about the size of your pencil, its what you do with it… and how long it takes.
You’ll probably need to use a rubber, you may have to give your wrists a rest… but keep it up and you’ll finish with a smile on your face!
KAMA SUTRA DOT-TO-DOT
Dot-to-dot just got hot! Very excited about this new version of an old classic, published by Square Peg. Here’s your chance to try out a few positions for yourself… just download and use as your screen saver!
BOXER HANDSOME - Anna Whitwham
Some hand-printed, letterpress title variations, for an upcoming debut novel set against a backdrop of East-End boxing clubs. The handsome results of a recent trip to New North Press.
THE SPORTS GENE - David Epstein
Some of us hit the target… some of us miss.
Not just a book for sports enthusiasts, David Epstein’s brilliant study gets to the heart of the great nature vs. nurture debate, and forces us to rethink the very idea of success.
This was the challenge for the cover artwork: to imagine how concepts of achievement and failure through Sport can relate to us all.

Beautifully illustrated by Vladimir Zimakov, our edition of Moby Dick was one of the first titles published when Vintage Classics re-launched in 2007.
STONER - Limited Edition Hardback
‘It’s the most marvellous discovery for everyone who loves literature’
Ian McEwan, BBC Radio 4
Colum McCann once called Stoner one of the great forgotten novels of the past century, but it seems it is forgotten no longer – in 2013 translations began appearing on bestseller lists across Europe. Forty-eight years after its first, quiet publication in the US, Stoner is finally finding the wide and devoted readership it deserves.
Next month, Vintage Classics will publish a special clothbound edition exclusively for Waterstones, with a design that incorporates woodblock printing and vintage american type.
Division Street - Helen Mort
Considered the defining image of the 1980’s UK miner’s strike, Guardian photographer Don McPhee’s ‘The Battle of Orgreave’ is the perfect cover shot for poet Helen Mort’s superb debut.
From the clash between striking miners and police to delicate conflicts in personal relationships, this collection cherishes specificity: the peculiarity of names; the precise moment of a realisation.

BRIDGET JONES - MAD ABOUT THE BOY - Helen Fielding
Published today from Jonathan Cape. Photography by Chris Frazer Smith.
